Interviews with Guerrilla Games
A bomb is about to explode! We are talking about Killzone 3, of course, which will be released on February 25th in Europe (22nd in US). As the big release of the PlayStation 3 exclusive nears, our Executive Editor Tugbek Olek headed to Guerrilla Games' headquarters for some exclusive interviews with the development team.
"OUR NEXT GAME IS NOT NECESSARILY AN FPS" – HERMAN HULST
Managing Director of the Guerrilla Games, Herman Hulst hit us with some interesting facts. "Killzone 2 took us more than 4 years to finish. Killzone 3 has Move support, 3D, co-op and it took us just 2 years to complete. I'm very proud of my team" Hulst said.
When we asked him is there any plan to develop a second game at the same time, Hulst said they are moving to a bigger place, they will be hiring more people and will be big enough to develop two games in parallel. That's good news for both players and developers looking for a job. Also Hulst gave us some hints about what they look for when hiring new staff. But more interesting thing is Hulst said their new game will have graphics and action but may not be a FPS game.
We also asked Studio head many more questions: How did they get a deal with Sony? Are there any plans for a Killzone movie? And what Herman wants you to checkout in Killzone.
"WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT CRYSIS 2" - JAN-BART VAN BEEK
The art director of Killzone 3 Jan-Bart Van Beek told us that although game has finished they didn't even have a break on Christmas time. Team is working hard on DLC maps and supporting marketing efforts. Also he revealed famous sound talents Ray Winstone and Malcolm McDowell contributed to the game with more than their sound, their attitude and facial features also played role in sculpting the major Helghast characters, Admiral Orlock and power hungry Johann Stahl.
When asked about if they are concerned about Crysis 2 coming out soon, Van Beek continued to say that they are really excited about Crysis 2, and since Crysis 2 is more an earth based sci-fi game while Killzone 3 is a big epic, military sci-fi adventure and offer a different experience.
We also mentioned famous Killzone 2 E3 trailer and asked him when they will deliver what has been promised. Jan believes most of it already in Killzone 3 and in some aspects it's even better.
MORE THAN 70 MINUTES OF CINEMATICS
The team focused more on the story event of the game and there will be more than 70 minutes of in-game cinematics that elevates the drama. Van Beek continued to show us the details of their peripheral designed for Killzone 3, The Sharpshooter. Is it any good actually? Well, let us hit you with this fact: It is much, much more sensible than buying another plastic guitar.
"WE WANTED TO TELL THE STORY FROM HELGAST SIDE" - MATTHIAS DE JONG
Killzone 3's director Matthias de Jong was sad about having to leave their lovely 17th century canal house-office. He tells us how reviews and community comments effected their design for the new game. Matthias gives us more details about some game mechanics such as jetpacks and Co-op and talks about games' story.
